Flat Tires

When you know that you are going to be traveling in remote areas, the things I like to carry are:
A can of Fix-a-Flat if you have laced wheels.
Or a plug kit if you have forged rims with tubeless tires.
And of course, a tire pump.
If you are traveling with other riders and you can split up the load, you might want to carry a spare tube and C-clamp to break the bead.

Western Mountains

When traveling in the mountains in the western United States it's always a good idea to have a good set of leathers, long finger gloves and something to cover your ears.
The large changes in altitude can have you riding in ninety degree weather and a few miles later be in 50 degrees with snow along the road.
Another thing is to plan to ride early in the day before the afternoon rain showers. Also stop for the night before dusk because of the wildlife, and it can get cold when the sun goes down.

Riding in the West

One of the things that I've learned about riding in the west is to expect the unexpected.
With the wide expanses, and distances between towns, or if you have a break down, sometimes you can't get a room.
My solution is to always carry my tent and sleeping gear when we travel to places we don't know.
Even though we can usually find a room it also gives us the option if a campsite looks inviting. .
