April in the Colorado Rockies at 10,000 feet is still in the grip of winter, so we loaded my Road King in the back of the pickup, and headed to Arizona for a week of riding in the desert. We had a great time and got a picture of a UFO.

Colorado
Sandhills Poker Run
May 4, 2008

A near perfect riding day greeted motorcyclists as ABATE of Colorado, District One members held their annual Sandhills Poker Run on Sunday, May 4, 2008.
ABATE which stands for “A Brotherhood Active Towards Education”, is a non-profit, educational, charitable and safety oriented motorcycle rights organization. Everyone participating in the run received a poker hand, t shirt, and a meal at the end along with door prizes donated by merchants from Northeast Colorado.
The net proceeds from the run will benefit the Wind and Fire Burn Camp for kids, ABATE of Colorado and District One, and other charities depending on net funds raised.

The Sandhills Poker Run, had 290 participants register for the annual event which started at the Riverside Park in Ft. Morgan, stopped at the Corral in Brush, Millies in Akron, Henry’s Pub in Sterling, Jambalyas in Merino, The Place in Hillrose, Queen Lounge in Ft. Morgan, AJ’s in Goodrich and ended at the Buchanan’s Welding shop in Ft. Morgan.

This year’s run totaled 156 miles culminating with announcement of the poker hand winners along with door prize winners. The top winner was Deb Gutierrez of Ft. Morgan, Second place went to Matt Baldwin of Ft. Morgan, third to Diane Rios from Brush.
